What the heck is that? Most people don't know what they are anymore would be my guess. I know that this trick is one that people don't link into or out of tricks. It is just a balance trick… but it is possibly one of the COOLEST balance tricks there is. I would not even rate this as a beginner trick. There are probably quite a few competing experts that can't even do this trick. So if you want to learn it prepare to spend some time on it and just using it for personal satisfaction. This trick falls under the listing of 'classic old school'

  • Begin by riding at a medium/slow pace with both feet on the pedals, left foot forward.
  • Grab the front brakes HARD and go into a high endo. In fact you want the endo to just keep going. As soon as you are high enough to do this put both legs behind the seat and let go of the bars with your right hand (your back brake hand) and twist the bars 90-degrees.
  • You will only be able to take your right hand off if you tuck your thighs behind your seat to control the bike and keep you from flipping forward.
  • Grab the nose of the seat with your right hand as the bike keeps going forward.
  • Now you are in a REALLY pushed endo… Just let it keep going. The bars should go all the way to the ground. If you have a peg over 3 inches long on the right side of your bike it will hit the ground and screw up the trick so you should take it off. In the video I am doing this on my street bike.
  • When the bars hit the ground you should be balanced with your butt over the rear tire. You can actually let go of the brakes now and the wheel shouldn't shoot out from underneath of you. Use the handlebars and your grip on the seat to control your balance from left to right.
  • There are various things you can do while balanced in this position (see pics) so have fun with the trick.
  • To ride out lean way forward over the seat and then YANK your weight backwards while grabbing the front brakes with your left hand. If you gained enough momentum the handlebars will come up off of the ground and the bike will fall back. Untwist the handlebars and grab the right grip with your hand.
  • Quickly push down on the pedals and ride away!

Just because this trick is old don't expect it to be easy. The intro says that the hardest trick to do is the one you haven't learned yet. Remember that! This trick is something that must be practiced for several weeks before it will be something that can be added to your trick list. There is something really unusual about balancing a bike on its end like that and knowing that you have it under control. Good luck!
